EDUCATION

I know that one cannot learn if their basic needs are not met, and while I cannot give every student food and a place to sleep, I can always give them respect and a dignified response. Because we are equipped with memory and complex emotional capabilities, such as empathy, it is possible for us to pass knowledge on from one generation to the next. In this sense, teaching can be a strong vehicle for social justice. It is my aim to be accessible to and inclusive of the many perspectives my students bring with them to the teaching and learning exchange. Conflict, be it within the group or beyond it, is an opportunity to consider diverse perspectives and deepen our humanity. My classroom is a place where dissent, contemplation, and critical inquiry are welcome and encouraged.
